Tawa

The Concept

Tawa is a Nikkei hand roll counter opening soon in Union Square, New York. It is the place where Japan and Peru meet in the same bite.

The name carries the whole idea. Tawa is the word inside Tawantinsuyu, the empire the Inca built from four regions made whole together. In Japanese, ta (田) can mean rice field and wa (和) harmony. Long before anyone used the word fusion, the Andes already had a word for union.

The tagline locates you inside it. East is Japan, West is Peru, and Here is the counter, where you pull up a chair with no reservation and no special occasion required.

The visual identity draws on the same sources. Its symbols come from t'oqapu, the geometric motifs of Quechua culture, alongside the fish and the rhombus of the Chakana. The palette comes straight from the two kitchens: ají panca, urushi red, toasted nori, parchment and toasted sesame.

The Result

A project with soul, and a brand ready before the doors open. Tawa arrives in New York with a name, a manifesto and a complete visual system, all telling the same story of two worlds made whole.
