What Is a Longstanding Brand? — Serafina Marketing article cover

A Longstanding Brand is a brand that outlasts trends because it solves a real problem and creates a genuine emotional connection with the people it serves. It is not the loudest brand in its market, or the newest. It is the one customers would miss if it closed tomorrow.

That idea is what Serafina Marketing was built on. In Portuguese we call them Marcas Infinitas. Here is what the term means, how to recognize one, and how we build them for small businesses in three weeks.

Why most brands are not built to last

Havas has measured this for years. In its Meaningful Brands 2019 study of 1,800 brands and 350,000 people in 31 countries, consumers said they would not care if 77% of brands disappeared (Marketing Week).

Most small businesses we meet are not at risk because their work is weak. The work is usually excellent. The brand simply says less than the business deserves. Across 600+ brands, we see three patterns:

  • Tactics without strategy. Marketing becomes a list of tasks instead of a plan for growth.
  • A perception gap. The brand image has not kept up with the quality of the business.
  • Mixed messaging. Each channel tells a slightly different story, and prospects stop listening.

If one of these sounds familiar, the free Brand Diagnostic is a 20-minute way to find out which.

The three traits of a Longstanding Brand

  1. It solves a real problem. The brand starts from what the business truly does for people, not from what is fashionable to say this year.
  2. It creates genuine emotion. People forget what a brand posted. They remember how it made them feel.
  3. It tells its story consistently. The same essence shows up on the sign, the website, the packaging and the feed, year after year.

What a Longstanding Brand looks like in practice

A confectionery that became a place for sweet moments. Júlia Cherem – Doces Momentos is a confectionery in Florianópolis, Brazil, that carries its founder’s name. Every decision starts from one idea: a sweet is never just a sweet, it is a moment. With that essence in place, a personal brand grew into a benchmark in its segment.

A counter where two cultures meet. Tawa is a Nikkei hand roll counter opening in Union Square, New York. The name comes from Tawantinsuyu, the Inca empire of four regions made whole. In Japanese, ta can mean rice field and wa harmony. Its tagline, “East, West, Here,” tells you where you are before you sit down.

A bar becoming a secret. Sub-Mission is a bar we are helping reposition as a hidden speakeasy: a place people feel they discovered, not one they were sold.

A restaurant that carries a country. Berimbau is a Brazilian restaurant in New York. Its rebrand was created by Rebu, a Brazilian studio, and Serafina carries it into everything the restaurant says. For more than a year we have been responsible for all of its communication, so that a meal there feels like Brazil and not only like Brazilian food.

A caregiving startup that feels like family. Nonno means grandparent in Italian. The platform connects families across Brazil with qualified caregivers, and its logo plays with a grandparent’s glasses. Every color and image was chosen to build trust, the first thing a family needs before welcoming someone into their home.

In each case we did the same three things. We listened to the story, found the essence of the brand, and helped communicate it consistently. You can see more of this work in our case studies.

How we build one in three weeks

Listening and consistency became a method. The Longstanding Brands method reorganizes a small business’s brand and digital presence in three weeks.

WeekPhaseWhat happens
1MarketImmersion, research and interviews. A positioning document, narratives and a moodboard.
2ImageA modernized or fully redesigned visual identity, brand guidelines, stationery and a social media kit.
3ActionA marketing plan with priorities, channels and KPIs, then rollout. Depending on the case, most clients follow it with a month of implementation.

It is one method, not a menu of services. We have refined it across 600+ brands in the U.S., Europe and Latin America.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Longstanding Brand? A brand that resists changes in the market because it solves a real problem, creates genuine emotion and tells its story consistently. The term comes from Serafina Marketing’s branding method.

Is a Longstanding Brand the same as an old brand? No. Tawa has the foundations of one before opening its doors. What matters is the essence the brand is built on, not its age.

Can a small business build a Longstanding Brand? Yes. Small businesses often have the strongest raw material: a founder, a story and customers who know them by name. The work is making that visible.

How long does it take? The foundation takes three weeks with our method. Staying consistent after that is what makes the brand last.
